Dr Claus Pahl is currently an Associate Professor at the Free University of Bolzano in Italy.
Prior to moving to Italy in early 2016, as a Principal Investigator with specific responsibility for the architecture theme, he helped building the national Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce IC4 – a technology centre consisting of three academic institutions working with more than 50 industry partners. He has also been a member of the Lero Software Research Centre from its foundation in 2005, as a Funded Investigator and member of the Executive in recent years.
His research interests lie in the wider software engineering field, specifically focusing on software architecture. Service engineering and cloud architectures have served as a specific application context for his software architecture research – looking into migration, architecture specification, dynamic quality and performance engineering in this context.
In these areas, he published more than 250 papers and has a h-index of 28 (according to Google Scholar). He has attracted more than 5 million Euros in external research funding from national, international and industry sources.
He has been a visiting researcher and lecturer at Northeastern University in Shenyang, China, and has also visited as a researcher the University of Oldenburg and Napier University in Edinburgh.
He has served on seven journal editorial boards in software engineering and educational technology and as a reviewer for more than 30 other journals. He has also been an expert evaluator, reviewer and panel member for the EU and other countries including Austria, the Netherlands, Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, Portugal and Greece. He co-chaired several international conferences and workshops.
